We have added work-in-progress surplus management to our MRP. This change comes from a recent customer request in the electronics manufacturing sector and who can certainly meet the needs of our manufacturing customers in other sectors. See for yourself.
This feature makes it possible to identify the products (components) « Work In Progress » (WIP) for which a quantity greater than the required quantity provided for in the recipe must be sent to the production floor. The main reason for this « overuse » is the format of this material, for example products in rolls, sheets, liquid or even gaseous format. During production, the entire amount on the production floor is no longer available. By identifying these products, the MRP and stock availability reports calculate the expected production returns and thus become more precise which helps to avoid unnecessary purchasing / manufacturing. It can therefore be very advantageous to consider these surplus quantities on the production floor, mainly when the production period spans several days and the cost of components is appreciable. This functionality can be used for certain assembly components required during production carried out by subcontracting and whose quantity sent is greater than the quantity required.
Note that usually these products are also configured to use serial numbers to identify which ones will be available and for traceability needs.
Basically that’s what this addition that meets a customer’s need is. This is one of the advantages of being able to work in collaboration with our software development team because it is always attentive to the needs of its customers.
